Farewell Tesract

There comes a time in every City Worker's life when they must move on and away from this little town we call Whyville. They need to spread their wings and fly, do bigger and better things, and that time has come from one of our dearest City Workers, tesract.

Tesract announced yesterday on the BBS that he will no longer work full-time on Whyville. Many citizens expressed their grief at his depart. Tesract was a kind, dedicated CW, and he will be missed by many.

We will not stop learning, Tesract. So long, and you're welcome for all the fish.

It's okay to cry,

Whyville's Sweet 16 Birthday Party Pictures

Last weekend, Whyville celebrated it's sixteenth birthday with a special party at the Sportplatz. There was the classic voting system and the wishing well, and newer games like the clam cannon, musical chairs, and gift toss. You earned points for playing these games and voting for other citizens, and if you scored 256 points or more, you could collect a special gift bag!

In this game I had to stack presents on the platforms. If you stacked sixteen (all together, not including the ones that fell off) you were rewarded with a clam shower.

I played one of my favourite games, the Wishing Well, where you unscramble words.

Musical Chairs was not a very popular game.

I won three scions in the gift toss game!

I scored over 256 points, and got my free gift bag which included:

A face factory voucher
128 pearls
512 Clams
and
A New Limited Edition Animated Face Part, this beautiful glowing candle

 MrCowboy was quite impressed.

Wondering why the weird numbers? 256 points, 128 pearls, and 512 clams? Could it be City Hall's phone number? Is she flirting with us? Could it be a secret code or riddle? Are they just random numbers? WILL WE EVER FIND OUT?! Stay tuned and the secret may be revealed.

That's all for now. Here's to another wonderful year on Whyville, and many more birthdays to come! Happy Birthday Whyville!

Saying Goodbye To Jelloroks

Yesterday, jelloroks passed away in a tragic car accident.  She was run over by George the Repo Man. She will no longer be writing on Whyville Insider. May she rest in peace...

April Fools!

Did you fall victim to this year's April Fools prank? Boo-hoo. Get it? Boo? Hahaha I'll leave now...:(

Style Studio Etiquette

Remember way back when, when a hacker would ask "Can I give you a makeover?", and of course, you said "Yes!". Then the hackers asks for your password, and being the newbie you were, you willingly gave it up. Next thing you know, your clams, face parts, and possibly you're whole account, were gone. That all changed with the addition of the Style Studio where you can safely give and receive makeovers. Here are some tips on proper style studio etiquette.

Always Say "Please" and "Thank You"

Whether you're the stylist or style-ee manners are important. For the stylist, being nice attracts more customers and will get you good ratings. For the style-ee, good manners will make the stylist want to give you a great makeover, and you might even get better prices!

Clearly State Whether You Are Buying Parts or Would Like A Makeover

This will make the stylist's job so much easier, especially if the stylist only does makeovers or only sells. (This also, the stylist should explain.)

Use the Favourite Tool to Your Advantage

Choosing favourite parts helps the stylist immensely when giving a makeover. We're not mind-readers! If you favourite parts, there's no way you'll be dissatisfied with your makeover.

Make Sure You and The Stylist Agree to the Makeover/Price

Don't press "I'm happy with this look" before the stylist gives the go-ahead! The stylist may not be finished with the makeover, or you may have just unknowingly ran off with her rares (which is a big deal). If the stylist agrees to selling you her parts, then you can click and confirm your purchase.

Charge Accordingly

As a stylist, if you are only going to sell face parts, and not give an actual makeover, don't charge 300 clams for them to look at your parts! Think about it like this, you aren't expected to pay for window shopping! If you are giving makeovers, then you can charge more for your services.

Don't Scam

This is a big one. Don't try to scam people out of there face parts. Not only does it hurt the stylist, it hurts you. Word will get out, most likely on the BBS, and no one will want to give you a makeover again.

Give Fair Ratings

Don't rate your stylist 1 star because you didn't like her or her face parts. If you didn't like the makeover, ask for something else! Stylists are there to help, and a good stylist will be willing to re-do it if you ask nicely. There are very few times you should rate a stylist with one or two stars.

Pay The Stylist, Even if You Didn't Buy Anything

This is pretty self-explanatory. It's the least you could do. Pay the fee as a "thank you" for the stylist taking the time to style you.

As the style studio gets more and more popular, stylists must work harder than ever to please customers. Follow these tips to become a better style studio stylist or customer, and remember, tip your waitress! Er, I mean, stylist.

BIOlympics Tutorial

BIOlympics is one of Whyville's newer salary games. the name combines "bio" or living, with the Olympics.  In this game, you "train" your animals to see how fast they can run, how fast they can swim, and how hard they can bite, and then you compete with other animals in the BIOlympics.

First, you will need to "train" your animals. To do this, you will need to find the right components in their "biomechanics" that allow them to bite, swim, or run, like they do. Follow the hints, and move the sliders slowly until you find the correct answers, and then click "validate". For every two check marks you receive in your training log, you will earn one clam of salary.

When playing BIOlympics, you will have a random selection of animals to choose from, but you can use this guide to help figure out which is the best animal to choose for each competition.

Types of BBSers

*DISCLAIMER* This is a humorous post meant to be taken as a joke. If I offend anyone, well, I don't care.

The Whyville BBS is a diverse community with people of different ages, ethnicities, and personalities. At any given time, there is probably at least one of each of these types on the BBS.

The Newbie

The Newbie is new to Whyville and/or the BBS. Sometimes, but not always, their writing will be atrocious. They can often be seen with the Welcome Wagon (see below).

The Welcome Wagon

The Welcome Wagon is overly nice, so super sweet they drool maple syrup, and they will never say mean words to anyone. They are the first to welcome new BBSers and befriend them. They wish everyone a Happy Birthday and congratulate everyone for everything.

The Humble Bragger

The Humble Bragger likes to show off their achievements whenever possible, whether it be their clam count, their fitness level, how many instruments they can play, how many languages they can speak, or just how damn awesome they are. They most likely have rich parents.  If you accuse them of bragging, they will get offended.

The Oldbies

The Oldbies have been on the BBS before it was even the BBS, before that little red pin icon was at the top of the screen, when you could only post on The Human Body. They were here from the start, and will stay to the end. They probably have high post counts but this is not always true. Respect them.

The Trolls

Trolls can be either funny or annoying. Trolling is an art that not all can master. Trolls feed off of the energy of the people they offend.  Trolls can be seen changing the subject, making light of a serious subject, and just being random.

The Spammer

The Spammer spams. They post on every thread, whether it's relevant or not, they will often multiple post or quote others for the sake of getting their post count up. You can see their name as "last posted" straight down the board. No one likes a Spammer.

The Nasties

The Nasties commonly talk about gross things and TMI subjects. Whether they post about pooping or peeing standing up, there is always at least one of them.

The Buyers and Sellers

The Buyers and Sellers frequent the "All About Face Parts" and "For Sale/Wanted" subtopics. There's a good chance that's the only place they post.

The Train Wreck

Train Wrecks are complicated. You want to believe them, but you also want to smack them. After their boyfriend broke up with them, their cat died, they fell out of a tree and broke their arm, their mother came down with cancer, all the while dealing with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, social anxiety, arachnophobia, and bronchitis. They often post about their woes in Emotions and Coping, If you call them out for lying, they will get very upset.

The BFF's

The BFF's always post about how much they platonicly love each other. They wish each other Happy Birthday and make a big deal out of it, and they congratulate each other on their post counts. They talk about inside jokes that no one else gets. They punctuate their sentences with <3. The BFF's probably annoy everyone else.

The Grammar Nazi

The Grammar Nazi corrects every grammar or spelling mistake they can find. The quote button is their best friend. They look down upon those who interchange "their", "there", and "they're". We all have a little Grammar Nazi in us, but correcting everyone can get really annoying.

Did I miss anything? If so, let me know in the comments!

Meet the Makers Tonight!

Another Meet the Makers will be going on tonight at Club Why at 3 PM WhyTime! Meet the City Workers, voice your comments and concerns, ask questions, and suggest new ideas at the meeting. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it because I have work tonight, but I hope those who are able to attend will enjoy it!
