AALAS Solitaire Game Revamped and Game Guide

The AALAS Solitaire game has been updated, and I find it easier to use, faster to play, and more fun. Win up to 40 clams a game in a short amount of time.Confused on how to play? I'm here to help!

The object of the game is to learn more about diseases that affect us. A random card will be drawn at the start of the game. It will tell you the name of the disease and give you a little information about it. You must choose one orange "impact" card, one green "experiment" card, and one purple "vehicle" card. The cards must correspond with each other and the disease card.

Click on the cards you think go along with the disease card. When you click on a card, it will turn yellow. If you click on two cards in the same category (impact, experiment, vehicle) the first card in that category you clicked on will turn to normal colour.

If you matched all three cards to the disease, they will get a purple check mark on them and move to the bottom.

If a card does not match at all, a purple "x" will appear over it and you will lose three clams for each incorrect card. For example, chickenpox does not cause cervical cancer in women.

If two-three cards do not match with each other, the cards will have a purple dash (-) appear over them. You will lose two clams for each pair of incorrect cards. For example, your vehicle can't be animals if your experiment is to make a model. The cards must correspond with each other. Computer: model, animal:animal, etc.

This game is fairly simple and my best tip I can give you is to use your context clues! (I know you aren't too thrilled to talk about English on your snow days!) If the experiment mentions animals, the vehicle must be animals. If the disease affects the muscles, than the impact should probably say something about muscles. Good luck. :D

Dreidel: Game Guide

Are all those Yiddish words confusing you? Is Chaim talking to fast for your pace? Or maybe you're just a beginner? Well, I have a great guide on how to play the dreidel game in Whyville. Fear no more!

This game is simple. It's all about luck and chance.

Begin by having at least two players in the room. At least two people need to play. To play say "ante" when a new game begins. If others in the room don't want to play, come back another time.

When you say "ante" you are in the game and five clams are automatically deducted from your account. These clams are then put in the "pot". The amount of clams in the pot at this time will depend on how many people play. For example, if three people play, 15 clams are in the pot.

When it's your turn, Chaim will advise you to "spin" the dreidel. To spin it, simply say "spin". The dreidel will spin and randomly land on a symbol. These are Hey, Nun, Shin, and Gimmel. Confused yet? I was at first also. Don't worry, Chaim will tell you what it lands on.

If the dreidel lands on:

Nun: Nothing happens.
Shin: The player is deducted five clams, and then those clams are placed in the pot.
Hey: The player gets half of the clams in the pot. If the number of clams is odd, half of that is rounded up. Example: 15 clams, half=8 clams
Gimmel: You win! You rake in all the dough in the pot, and the game is over. You can play over and over as long as you have the clams to do it.

When a player lands on Gimmel, the game is over. Hey, you win some you lose some. (No pun intended.) It's all random, there's nothing you can do to increase your chances of winning.

Your next stop will be at Ye Olde Projectile Shop to get some lights and tinsel to throw at your friends at south beach. And who could forget Christmas tree lane? Decorate your own ornament for 50 clams and play a good ol' game of Dreidel. Say hi to Santa!

So at the beginning of November, whyville city worker, Tesract, announced some more updates to the forums which include:

Paginated search results- More accurate search results

Quotes from "city hall" now appear correctly

Spellcheck for username searches- This one's kind of obvious. Everyone will spell their friend's username wrong at least once! I don't know about you, but I find it hard to remember hawtgirl132532. :P

Adjusted post length minimum to 1 character- Remember when you had to put "too short to be useful" or a bunch of spaces after your posting? After we got the updates, those spaces didn't work, so you had to put characters or codes. Now you don't have to do that. Your post can be as short as one character.

Post speed limits (3 posts / 2 minutes)- This is a good one to prevent double/triple posting and spam

Extra wide posts now get a scroll bar instead of breaking formatting- No more page stretches! Now we have a convenient scroll bar.

I would like to thank the city workers for implementing these awesome updates and for listening to our suggestions. (Tesract and Keine, I'm talking to you. ;D)

I would also like to apologize for my lack of posting on this blog. I've been busy and just plain lazy. My bad. :P

Halloween is right around the corner, so why not celebrate on Whyville? Whyville's annual Halloween party will be October 28, from 3-7 PM Whytime, at Hauntington Gardens. "Hauntington Gardens?", you say?, "Where's that?". Well, you'll need to have the secret password to get to it. Go to Doctor Leila's and say the secret password which is "evil eye live" backwards. (Evil eye live backwards is evil eye live! You don't have to worry about misspelling some made up backwards word this year. :P) Even though I just told you the code, if you're not willing to tell your friends the secret, tell them to invite someone to the Halloween party to get it themselves.

First I would like to congratulate kmg333 for being July's helper of the month and clocking in over 18 hours at the help center (which is a whole lot more than I've ever gotten! That's dedication). The helper of the month still receives a free one month whypass but prizes for the rest of the top 10 have changed. New BBS Additions, Coming Soon!

So if you're a frequent BBSer, this news may make you smile! City Workers have announced (or should I say that citizens found out?) some new additions to make the BBS easier to use and funner to use. These include:

Stickied and Locked Threads: I don't know what this is, but it sounds cool. :)

Search Bar: We've been asking for this forever, and the city workers have delivered. This is going to make finding your threads/posts so much easier.

Add people as friends from BBS: Easy and convenient.

Preview Your Posts: Now you can double check for typos or add something you forgot.

Use of HTML: This is bold/underline/etc. This is cool, but I'm going to miss CakelTame and the other City Worker's bold print. It won't stand out! :( Oh well, this is still a great addition.

So these additions to the BBS will be coming soon. Enjoy and don't forget to thank those lovely cityworkers! ;)

The Unofficial Official Whyville Spirit Week!

I would like to announce that the POC (Party Organizing Committee) is hosting Whyville's unofficial Official Spirit Week during the first week of August! The POC is a club on Whyville founded by xoxkitkat and Identify where "we host parties for all Whyvillians to take place in and have fun." Canada Day and 4th of July Contests

Reminder that the annual Canada Day and Independence Day contests will be underway soon. July 1st is Canada Day and Whyville celebrates with its annual maple leaf hunt. Red and gold maple leaves will randomly pop up in Whyville chat rooms. If you're lucky enough to find the rare gold maple leaf, you'll win a pearls prize. Also a pearls prize will be rewarded to the three people who find the most red leaves, so get hunting!

And for the Americans, you're not left out! The 4th of July contest will take place on July 4th of course! Senate Race 2011: Inauguration Pics

This was my first inauguration and I was unimpressed. :) Well, it's not really that interesting but I'm happy for all the senators and those who participated in the race. Senate Update

Finally, the inauguration ceremony will be held tomorrow, Saturday, June 19th at 11 AM Whytime in the Greek Theater. (No promises joker63 will be there.) Also elections will now be held twice a year. The next will be held in August, so if you'd like to become a senator, get working on that. Hopefully Marissa, Zoey, and Travis can make some changes to our town. PlaneWorks WingFling: Game Guide

In this game it is your job to build as many planes as you can. There are four types of planes, the Boeing 737 (Gray), Boeing 747 (White), Cessna 580 (Orange), and F-16 (black). Each plane consists of four parts, fuselage, engine/s, left, and right wings. You can listen to instructions from Chaim (the floating head on the right, also known as Simon) before you play or you can start the game immediately by saying 'skip'. If you are playing with other people, everyone in the room must say 'skip' before the game begins. When the game starts, the plane parts will start appearing on the conveyor belt. Move your avatar to the end of the conveyor belt to grab a part. Put the part in an open construction bay or in storage. (Note: If you don't pick up a part, it automatically goes to storage.)You can only have one of each part in the construction bay (Ex: One left wing, one right wing, etc.) and the parts must be all the same colour and design. If you carry a wrong part to a construction bay, it will go to storage. When a plane has all four pieces, it disappears leaving the construction bay open again.

As the game goes on, the parts on the conveyor belt will move faster. When all the storage bins are filled and a part is about to leave the conveyor belt, the game ends. You will receive an amount of clams for how many planes you built.

Tips:

If you'd rather play by yourself, go to a different room or server.

You can only carry one part at a time. If you don't want to carry it anymore, drop it in a construction bay or storage.

Keep in mind how many storage bins and construction bays are open.

Up to four players can play a game of WingFling.

What's the Deal With Pearls?

This article explained not only the benefits of pearls and pearls allowances, but also explained why pearls are a better deal than Whypasses. Now I could tell you what she said, or you can read the article. I also liked the article because it was also an interview. It was interesting to find out the city workers views too. The interview was not just "Do you like pearls? NO WE SHOULD BRING WHYPASSES BACK!". I had never purchased a Whypass, but I was around when they were available. As for the Buying clams, you can purchase pearls and with those pearls purchase FFV's or parts to sell back to Whyvillians. That's basically the same thing. If you'd like to support Whyville and be awarded from it, ask your parents and purchase some pearls!

The reason is that I either hadn't gotten around to reading the articles, or they just didn't interest me enough. It sucks that there are usually less than twenty articles in the time; I've been writing some things myself but I haven't submitted them yet. I'll keep working on it. I only have one article to review this week.

Strike Two, Harold Camping!

You may have heard that last Saturday, May 21, was supposed to be Judgement Day, the end of the world, the apocalypse, whatever you want to call it. Harold Camping, an 89 year old religious man, claimed that that day would be Judgement day. He used a mathematical equation to predict the date. (If you want to know that equation, read the article!) He said that at 6:00 no matter where you are, is when it would happen. Some would be taken to heaven, which Camping thought he was, and others would be left on the Earth to suffer the apocalypse. Camping as well as others spent thousands of dollars on billboards to warn people. When 6:00 came on the East coast, obviously nothing happened.

Kittypet remained respectful in the article, while still keeping it interesting and informative. I congratulate her for that. It was interesting to find out more about the article, because honestly I just thought this was some weird old dude who picked a random number and said it was the end of the world. The article wasn't biased, and is a great read if you want to learn more.

Getty Art Hour

Tips for Face Factory Voucher Hunting

Face Factory Vouchers or FFV's are special passes that allow you to make one face part in Akbar's Face Factory. You can obtain these by purchasing them with pearls, buying one off of a friend, or finding them randomly around Whyville. Older Whyvillians may remember Why Passes which if you purchased one (with real money, just like pearls) would give you unlimited access to the face factory for as long as you had the why pass. Why passes are not for sale anymore and probably never will be. You might also remember that face factory vouchers would appear in specific places such as WASA and the Kinematic attic. It would be specified on the home page. Whyville doesn't do that either. Now FFV's pop up in all chatrooms everywhere. So enough of me running my mouth (erm, hands?) about this nostalgic stuff and let's get on with the tips.

First of all, be patient! Don't expect to find one in a few seconds. It may take hours to find an FFV, but it's possible! I've found them before! You have to be patient and dedicated to finding an FFV.

Go to chatrooms with little to no traffic. This means go to the chatrooms where no one really goes anymore. Stay away from areas such as South Beach, Sun Roof, and the Mall. With more people in the room you are less likely to catch that FFV before someone else does.

Forgive and Forget. I know how it feels when some random Newbie gets that FFV and you don't. You think, 'WTH!?!? That newb will probably never log in again! They don't deserve the FFV!'. I've been there and want to tell them off, but please refrain from doing so. Maybe if you're nice, they'll let you buy it off of them for a cheap price.

Still can't find one? When all else fails, take the easy way out and just buy one off of someone. The highest price you'll probably pay is 500 clams. Don't want to do that? BUY PEARLS! Whyville desperately needs the money, so support them and buy some pearls. If you buy the smallest amount of pearls (500 pearls) for just $5 you can buy at the most ten face factory vouchers. Buying the larger amount of pearls will get you more.

Sorry I wasn't able to get on blogger yesterday, so I couldn't tell about the Earth Day contest. Well, now I can! Yesterday, citizens went on hunts to find the rare pink circled globe with pink biodegradable and recycled confetti! These globes as well as regular globes were popping up in chat rooms all around Whyville. Whoever found the rare pink circled, will win a pearls prize. Whoever found the most globes will also win a prize. Winners will be announced soon!

Yes, there's another competition going on in Whyville and once again the prize is a laptop (this one is hp, the last one was Dell). Enter the contest by creating fun games in the AMD Game Zone. You can make a multi player game in Whyville (Birudo), Gamestar Mechanic Games, or Activate! Games. You can create as many games as you'd like. You must agree to the contest rules and games must be your own. At the end of the contest the ten highest rated games will be finalists. A winner will also be selected for best themed and non-themed games. Also, a laptop prize will go out to a class room with 5+ participating students who submitted the best overall games. Projectile News

One of the problems with face parts not expiring is that your face parts may pile up in your satchel. This was brought up by some Whyvillians after the birthday party especially with the 500 part limit. Now you can donate projectiles to Grandma's! This will make it so much easier to get rid of those basically useless projectiles. Also, a new projectile called "Pixie Dust" is out. It's similar to confetti.

So You want to Earn Clams?

As a y-mail helper, I'm frequently asked the question 'How do I earn clams?'. Well, it's actually pretty simple. I'm here to give you some tips that you may or may not have known of on how to earn clams in Whyville.

First off, clams are virtual currency in Whyville. This is our money that we use to buy face parts, blocks, furniture, projectiles, etc.

1. A great way to start earning clams is by starting a salary. To get to your salary ledger (the place where all salary games are found) click the black icon at the top of your screen. A salary is an amount of clams you've earned that you will receive once every day you log onto your Whyville account. *Note: You will not receive that amount of clams until the next day. However, some salary games give you clams on the spot for playing.*

In this game, all you have to do is take the tutorial, which is not hard. You only earn two clams of salary.

House of Illusions:
In this game, all you have to do is walk through the rooms. You can check out the pictures if you like. Some are pretty interesting.

Dance Creation:
You'll actually have to pay to make your dance depending on how many steps it has, but you'll earn that money back in just a few days. You get ten clams of salary from this game!

Geodig Levels:
Three words, trial and error.

PlaneWorks CAD:
In this game, you just have to put the planes together by connecting the dots. Save each plane, and you'll earn four clams of salary.

Raven Island Fire Starters Game:
Choose the right thing you should do. Like calling an adult instead of joining in.

Reef Food Web:
Usually, larger animals are at the top of the food chain (but in this case it would actually be at the bottom, sorry if I'm being confusing) and smaller animals and plants are at the bottom. If you don't place a plant or animal in the right spot, it will tell you it's wrong and you can just try again.

Reef Identification:
Some animals are harder to find than others. For example the dolphin, turtles, sharks, octopus, jellyfish, and moray eel. When you're diving, click those first.

Critter Care:
I've started a series on this blog about critter care help, just search it in the search bar!

Random Tip: When you're in your ledger, try sorting them by clams left to earn or maximum clams.

Follow these tips and you can have a high salary in no time! (My salary is 227!)

2. Play games on Whyville! But you should be aware that some games will not give you clams. To see a list of lots of games click the green 'Play' button on your screen.

Games that give clams are:

Microbe Wars:

You can play with a friend or with Sonya by saying 'summon sonya'. EARN DOUBLE CLAMS! You must collect all the Microbe cards that pop up in chat. This is a great game to earn clams. In one game, I once won over 300 clams!

Love/Hate Game:

You will need at least two other eligible people to play this game with you.

3. Participate in Contests. They're everywhere! Participate in BC's (Beauty Contests), Raffles, and other contests. There are always contests going on in the BBS and sometimes in the Whyville Times. You will usually see people promoting BC's in chat. Don't forget special contests like the Scion Car Rallies.

4. Miscellaneous. You can find easy ways to earn clams all over Whyville.

Take the chat test! You'll automatically earn 50 clams.

Whyville-Wise your parents and earn 80 clams. Just go to *Parent Ed Bonus in the bus menu, print the certificate, have them sign it, you sign it also, and fax it to Whyville.

Build a scion for the Scion Race Track. It's not too hard, and you'll earn 50 clams for the first one you build.

Create a Love/Hate List. Once you select 20 items, you'll get 40 clams.

Collect Dell Parts. They randomly pop up in Whyville chat rooms and for each one you cash in, you get one clam. I know it's not a lot, but trust me, it adds up.

Teach your pet to dig. You can buy a pet with pearls and teach them to dig. Take them into a Whyville chatroom, and say 'pet dig'. They may dig up a clam, projectile, SDV (Scion Decal Voucher) or even pearls. It's still not much but it adds up.

Join WhyEat. For each day you stay healthy on WhyEat, you'll get 25 clams. But I should warn you, this game is not easy.

5. Start your own business. You can sell face parts in Akbar's face mall or create songs in the Scion Music Jukebox. For this it takes clams, to earn clams, but it's worth it.

The WhyReef has become unhealthy again and those creatures need your help! First you should take the survey after looking at the collabrative graphs and help us decide what needs to be done. You can also help by making and wearing Reef themed face parts. (You don't need a voucher to make the face parts, but you will have to pay for it.) Do you have good writing skills? Write an article for the Whyville Times to get the word out! Got tons of clams just lying around? Put them to good use and donate. You can also get special pins for donating. I still have mine from last year. For donating 100 clams, you receive the Red Spotted Coral Crab pin. For donating 500, you receive the Clown Trigger Fish pin. For donating 1000 clams, you receive the White Tip Reef Shark pin. (I've got all three! I've already donated my clams.) I have some reef face parts available in my store from last year if you'd like to purchase some. Let's save the reef!

A Message to All Whyvillians

Lately there has been some controversy going on about the Style Studio Heist, especially in the BBS. I'm not speaking to anyone in general here, but rather to everyone. Spamming in the BBS will do no good. Insults, arguments, and immature stories will get you no where. All of the blame cannot go to the City Workers, and all of it can't go to the hacker. Please, stop with all the hate threads. Your clams and pearls that you've rightfully earned will be restored after this whole thing blows over. Spamming in the BBS is against the rules and actually postpones the CW's answers to your questions. They are real people with lives outside of Whyville. They aren't able to be there 24/7. When you spam, it just takes them more time to get to the important questions you want answered. They must go through posts with a fine tooth comb and it takes more time. Will typing in caps lock and blaming everything that happened on the City workers solve anything? Probably not. Be grateful Whyville is still a free website that has been running for twelve years. Don't you want to keep Whyville running? If you don't like Whyville, the solution is simple. Leave. Be grateful you have a voice in Whyville. Believe it or not, the city workers actually do listen to your concerns and suggestions. That's why we have them along with senators. They may like the idea, but just because they do does not mean it will happen in a short amount of time. Improvements to Whyville take time and money, which Whyville doesn't always have. If you want to help, buy pearls. If you don't, then don't. It's your choice. Whyville is free and no one is forcing you to buy them. Don't complain about what you think is wrong in Whyville, suggest ways to improve it. Breaking the rules will get you nowhere and will more likely just annoy the city workers. Let's try to keep Whyville running, and let's remember the Whyville Way.

Style Studio Theft!

On Thursday a Whyville citizen found a "hole" in the style studio and stole billions of clams from City Hall. (I'm assuming that when they say 'hole' it means the person hacked Whyville.) He did not report it, but stole the clams and distributed them out to friends who gave them out to friends, and so on. The clams were given to hundreds of citizens. I've seen posts about this before in the BBS, but I thought it was just a joke and nothing serious. "Does this seem fair to you? Is that the Whyville Way?"- a quote from the home page. WhyCash has also been down for a few days in order to try to prevent the clams going around. Of course there's still clamgram and the Trading Post, but Clamgram is pretty much useless it you want to send millions of clams and some can't access the trading post on their computers. Whycash is generally the simplest. The hacker demands he gets all his banned/expired accounts back. Should they give in?

Whyville's Annual Clover Hunt

Saint Patrick's Day is around the corner, and to celebrate there will be an annual 4-leaf clover hunt on this Thursday, the 17th. On that day, clovers will pop up in a bunch of Whyville Chatrooms. NonExpiring Parts? This might happen!

*I don't know why I haven't posted this a long time ago. But hey, better late than never. ;)*

Did you know parts didn't always expire? It's true, the expiration dates were put on face parts around 2002. Why do parts expire? The answer is too conserve server space on Whyville. A little while ago, BBSers were asked for their opinion on a controversial topic, expiration dates on face parts. CakelTame, a well-known city worker, told us they were considering taking away the expiration on face parts. They wanted to know what we whyvillians thought. The responses were split. Some said yes. "I hate when our parts expire and I don't have pearls to renew them!" or "I hate when my rares expire!". Others said no. "The major reason I buy pearls is to renew my face parts!" or "My rares will be worth less if they don't expire." Obviously there are some ups and downs. Now don't get too excited. This is not a definite. Hopefully, if this happened all those 'NO EXPIRING PARTS' petitions would come to a halt. What's your opinion? Post a comment!

Daily Dozen Birthday Contest

In honor of Whyville's 12th birthday, a contest has been released. The prize? Pearls! Once you have completed all 12 of the challenges for the contest, you'll earn 12 pearls every day for the rest of March starting the next day. The challenges get harder as they go along and the next challenge will be revealed once you have completed the previous challenge. Senate Race 2011: The Race is on!

Voting is now open for this year's senate race and there are over 100 people running! Senators are Whyville citizens who discuss with the CWs ways to improve Whyville. They take their ideas and also use yours to let the CWs know what we the people want. (A little Constitution in there!) To get to the senate platforms, go to the Poll Booth in City Hall and click the senate platforms book. You can only vote for one platform, so make sure it's the right choice! Critter Care: Part 3

Now it's time to learn how to take care of the Mini Pig. Click the bulletin board that says 'Pig' on it to start caring for the animal. Like I've said before, you should always check the Animal History and weight of the animal before doing anything else. Red tag the cage immediately if the pig is underweight or overweight. If the energy level is low, give the pig an apple. You may also have to red tag the cage. If the cage was cleaned recently and there is a lot of waste in the cage, red tag it. If the cage was not cleaned recently and there is no waste in the cage, red tag it. The same goes for water if it is not drinking enough. Always fill the water bowl up and clean the cage completely. Only give the pig one serving of food if it is overweight or keep it half full.

Critter Care: Part 2

You already know how to take care of the fish, so let's learn how to take care of the Xenopus Frogs. Click the 'Frog' clipboard in the critter care lobby and then click any one of the tanks to get started. It's a good idea to check the History and weigh the frog before you begin anything else. Check the scale in animal history. If the frog is grossly underweight, underweight, overweight, or grossly overweight, red tag the tank immediately. If the frog is not overweight, feed it one serving of food if it was fed 1-2 days ago. Feed it 2 servings if it was fed 4 days ago. Change the filter when needed, like you did for the fish. Red tag the tank if the frog is excreting too much or too little, like you did for the fish.

When you have correctly tagged all four tanks, click 'Submit lab report'. If you have successfully cared for all four frogs, you will earn 15 clams. If you do this for 12 frogs, you'll earn 45 clams and another 3 clams of salary. You'll also earn a certificate for completing all 12 tanks.

Critter Care: Part 1

Critter care is a salary game where you monitor and care for different types of animals such as pigs, mice, and fish. Your job is to keep them happy and healthy. To get to the critter care game, you can click 'Critter Care' in your salary ledger and then click on anyone of the clipboards to start. I'll give you some tips on how to keep these animals healthy. Let's start with the Zebrafish.

Click the 'Zebrafish' clipboard and then click anyone of the tanks. I recommend reading the animal history and weighing the animal first. (The fish will not have to be weighed but the other animals will.) When you click the history, it will say "Tank cleaned: _ day/s ago, Last Fed: _ day/s ago, Filter changed: _ Day/s, week/s ago" For any of the animals, if they are not overweight and they were fed 1 or 2 days ago, give them one serving of food. If they were last fed 4 days ago, give them 2 servings. Remember not to feed them too much if they are overweight! If the tank looks green, change the filter. If you can't tell look at the animal history. You may see a greenish residue on the walls of the tank. This is the waste from the wish. Clean it by dragging the brush onto the tank until you see no more green. You can also replace the filter and feed the fish by doing the same with the other icons.

If the tank was not cleaned in a while but there is no green on the walls, that means the fish is not excreting as much as it should. Red tag the tank. If the tank was cleaned only a day ago and the tank is very green, that means the fish is excreting too much. Red tag the tank.

Here is a picture of a fish that has fish confusion. If you see this, you should red tag the tank.

When you think you have successfuly cared for the fish, put a red or green tag on it and click 'exit'. When you have cared for the fish in all four tanks, click 'Submit Lab Report'. If you correctly tagged all of the tanks, you will earn 15 clams. After you've correctly taken care of 12 tanks, you'll earn 45 clams and 3 clams of salary. You'll also earn a certificate!

Senate Race 2011

Now is the time when you can submit your senate platforms! (Note: You must be at least 90 days old on Whyville and pay a 500 clam entry fee.) What are senators, you ask? Senators forward citizens' suggestions and comments to the city workers. They will discuss the ideas and suggestions with them hoping to have Whyville implement them. The six platforms with the most votes will move on, however only three senators will be chosen. So if you're running for senator, start campaigning! Make a sign and a well-written platform of course! If you want to vote, check them out in the poll booths and pick your favorite one! Good luck!

How to be a Good Y-Mail Helper

You've always looked up to them and you've always wanted to be one. You've take the test and you finally got all the answers correct! Good job! Here are some tips on being a good Y-Mail Helper.

Tip #1: Be friendly and make the person feel comfortable. Say "Hi. How can I help you?" or "Hello. Do you have a question?" If the person doesn't respond immediately, be patient. Don't say anything like, "Hurry up! What's your question!?". If they seem to be taking a while ask again. If they still do not respond they may be frozen or unresponsive. Boot them out of the chair if their is someone else waiting in line.

Tip #2: Be a good example. Type in with correct spelling and grammar, limiting chat speak. It will be easier for them to understand you. Do not encourage them to do something bad. If they complain that they are being picked on, for example, tell them to silence or vaporize, the person. Don't tell them to fight back.

Tip #3: Be respectful to other helpers. If you have been sitting at the desk for a long time and another helper is waiting, give them the desk. Sharing is caring! If you still want to help, go to the next room.

When you receive a y-mail, respond to it as you normally would in the Help Center. Remember to be polite.

If you have a question about Whyville you can go to the help center by clicking it in the destination bar and asking the helper the question there, or you can go to y-mail helper in the destination bar and clicking one of the helpers to y-mail them your question.

New Chatroom

There's a teacher's lounge for teacher's to discuss the books and plan lessons, and there's also a "Beauty and the Beast" Room. Game Review: Game Zone Beta: Descent

Whyville is testing out new games that whyvillians create. The games are called Descent and Birudo; the object of the game is to try to get a blue/purple object onto the "goal" which is a blue/purple rectangle. You must strategically remove other blocks to make the blue figure fall onto the goal. One player can play descent, while four can take turns removing blocks in birudo.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Opinion: Some of these games that citizens make are so easy a four year old could win them, but some are a little tricky.

This is an OK game. (Whyville does have to keep it easy to design and educational!) This will be a good thing for designers. The top rated game/games that are picked will be put on Whyville as a regular game. The designer gets five clams every time someone plays his/her game! Imagine how many people play simon says or Planeworks WingFling daily! Good luck designers and players.

Now you know a little bit about Whyville, but of course you still have many questions. This edition of Whyville for Dummies is about shopping, pearls, and creating a face.

Pearls: Pearls are currency in Whyville, but they are not as easy to get as clams. Pearls can only be purchased with real money. You might be thinking, why can't I have pearls for free? Well, Whyville uses this money to keep whyville up and running. You can purchase pearls for $5 and up, lucky for you, they're on sale right now! With pearls you have special privileges on whyville such as whypets, FFV's (Face Factory Vouchers), and chat candy.

Shopping: You can shop at Akbar's Face Mall for faceparts for your avatar. These range in prices and quality. Don't spend your money all in one place! You can also shop for other items by clicking the orange 'Shop' button on the left side of your screen. You can trade items and clams at the trading post too. If you aren't sure what to buy, go down to the style studio and another Whyvillian will give you a cool new look!

Creating a Face: Once you've purchased your faceparts of choice you can put them on your avatar by picking your nose. I know what your thinking, Pick my nose? Gross. But this is just a funny way of saying creating an avatar. To get to pick your nose you can click your avatar on the left side of your screen or by choosing 'Pick your Nose' in the Destination bar.

Whyville for Dummies: Getting Started

So you're new to Whyville? Wondering how to make clams, make friends and get around? Well this is the info you need to survive in Whyville.

Earning Clams: On Whyville you can earn clams by playing games; there are many to choose from. Some easy ones are PlaneWorks WingFling and AALAS Solitairre.

DO: Be patient, you won't become rich in one day.
DON'T: Beg for clams. If you do this, you're just asking to be ignored.

Making Friends: Some people aren't so nice on Whyville, but others are very friendly! Go up to someone and say, 'Hi!'. If you act maturely and nicely, you will be treated nicely back.

DO: Silence or Vaporize people who are being mean to you. Why should you have to listen to them?
DON'T: Ask for personal information such as password, phone number, address, or facebook/myspace URL. This could get you in trouble.

Getting Around: There are several different ways to get around Whyville. One is by using the map. At the left side of your screen when you log in, there will be a blue button that says 'MAP'. Click this and it will take you to the map of Whyville. You can click any of the destinations on the map and it will automatically take you there. Another way is by using the Destination bar which is under all of those buttons. Click something and it will take you there. You could always get around the old fashioned way, by 'walking' to it. For example, there might be signs that say where different destinations are in the chatrooms. Click it and you will be taken there. The last way is by teleporting. You can teleport to some secret locations by saying 'teleport (destination)'.
Some include the moon and the planets.

Chatting: You must be over 13 years old to chat freely on Whyville without a parental permission slip. When you make a new account, there will be a link to it. Print it out, have your parents sign it, and fax or send it to Whyville. Once it's received you'll even get a clam bonus! NEVER ask for or give away personal information i.e your full name, your school, you address, your password, etc.

DO: Have your parents sign your permission slip if you have to.
DON'T: Be mean to other Whyvillians or break any of the rules while chatting.

Earning a Salary: A salary is a certain amount of clams you earn the first time you log onto Whyville during the day. Some easy salary games are Skater Game, Spin Game, Getty Art Sets, Spitzer Spectrum, House of Illusions, Dance Creation, Planeworks CAD, Critter Care and all reef games.

At the End of the Road

I was being chased, by someone. I didn't know who it was, but I just had to get away. I tripped and fell on my face and fell unconscious. Next thing I knew I was in a colorful land with a headache.
"Teeheeheehee!" I heard giggling close by. "Teehee" There it was again. A woman clad in a poofy dress and a tall crown appeared next to me.
"Thank you, young lady," she said calmly.
"Thank me?" I asked, "For what?"
"Well, when you fell, you squished the wicked witch of Whysquare."
"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to,"
"Oh, no, dear. No one liked her anyway. She always picked on the Newbies!" she said distastefully.
"Well, that's not very nice at all! Who are the Newbies?" I wondered.
"They are the little people who live hear in Whyville. You can come out now!"
Dozens of little people came out from behind bushes and signs. I greeted them and asked,
"How can I find my way home? I need to let my dog outside! He has to pee!"
"Settle down now. Just follow the checkered road," she gestured behind me.
"But then how..."
"Just follow the checkered road!"
I shrugged and walked off. I finally came to a colorful bird and a fork in the road.
"Excuse me, which path must I take to find my way home?"
The bird remained ever so silent but when I looked again there was only one road. I followed it, and followed it, until then... there was a little car sitting there. I went closer to it and the lights flashed. I hopped in and instantly, it drove me home. It seemed like time stood still and then all I remember is waking up and seeing out my window, that one little checkered scion that I found at the end of the checkered road.

I was lying in bed sniffling and feeling achey. I called Doctor Rotcod and he diagnosed Spring Fever.
"How can I be cured Doctor?", I asked him anxiously.
"You will have to purchase something on Whyville that has a 'Springtime' feel."
"*Gasp* But I can't doctor!"
"You must! It's the only way."
"But what must I buy?"
"I will give you a prescription for a colorful scion. You should buy it as soon as possible."
"Thank you doctor," I replied as we both hung up.

Another scion? I already have two! Well, if it can cure my cold, I will. I put all my energy into getting out of bed and went to club scion. I handed my prescription to the salesman and strolled down the long aisle of scions. There was Black Sand Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Blackberry Crush Metallic, but not many colorful ones. Then, I saw it, that spring themed scion at the end of the row. It seemed as though a light shone upon it. That was it! I purchased the scion and took it home. Just a half an hour later, I was back to my normal self, all thanks to that one cheery scion!

On that cold December day, I happened to be visiting Club Scion. I had no intent on purchasing this scion because frankly, I didn't have the money. At the moment I saw that dusty little scion sitting alone in the corner just waiting for someone to take it home, I had to buy it. What could I do though? I was about 2000 clams short! "Someone need a loan?" yelled an anonymous voice. I was startled when a man popped up next to me. He was from Scion Solutions! I quickly followed him into the loan office and stated the amount of money I needed to borrow. He helped me out in just a few minutes. I chose that lonely scion in the corner, paid my deposit and set off on my way with my brand new scion. To this day, that little scion is dust free and is never lonely.

I payed for this all by myself, no loans whatsoever, and I chose the design because I'm a fan of the color green. The Whyngs were supposed to be paired with the Under Car cloud, but I clicked the Under car glow instead. Nonetheless, my scion was and is still loved.

I know this is a little late... or a lot late... Well better late than never, right? Unfortunately, I missed most of the 2010 Prom because I went bowling that night. :( Although I did happen to capture a few photos. I have a picture of my Prom avatar on a side account, some pictures of the rooms, and the pictures of our Prom King and Queen and the runner-ups.
The prom king was Andy344 and the Prom Queen was Ashton222. The two runner-ups were HotttDave and Alichic. Gift boxes appeared at the prom which contained top hats and corsage face parts. Free limousine services were also available to all Prom-goers.

How to Get a Scion

Oh, our beloved scions. A great price to pay for a great Whyville souvenir.

My WhyCo score is 850, which is the highest possible score you can get. The lowest you can get is 300. Having a high WhyCo score gives you a higher chance to receive a loan. Some citizens that want a scion need a loan, but are unable to get one possibly because of a low score. So how can you get it higher? Here is a list of some things you can do to up your WhyCo Score:

1. Wait until your account ages more. The older your account is, the more likely you would pay off a loan.

2. Visit Whyville more often. By visiting often, it shows that you are an active citizen and that you will be serious in re-paying a loan.

3. Earn more clams! Having more clams gives you a higher chance to be able to pay back the loan.

4. Keep it clean. If you are someone who gets caught breaking the rules often, this may alter your WhyCo score negatively. The more punishments you were given in the past three months, the lower your score may be. Being punished this often may send a warning to Bankinteer that you may not take the loan seriously.

5. Write a Whyville Times article. The Times is always looking for new writers and now you have something else to motivate you. (This only counts for articles written in the past three months.) This proves that you are committed to Whyville and will take the loan seriously.

6. Becoming a Y-Mail helper, senator, or home-owner also shows your dedication to Whyville and will bring your score up.

7. How many loans have you already paid off? If you've already payed off a lot of loans in the past, this shows that you can be trusted.

8. Have you defaulted any loans? If you have, you may not be able to be trusted paying off another loan.

Once you can get your WhyCo score up, make sure your loan is reasonable. For example, it's difficult for a new user to earn 12,000 clams in one week, so maybe have twelve weeks to pay it back!

You can also find a Scion co-buyer. Ask a friend (or a random stranger) if they would help you out. If they say yes, travel to the Club Scion together and visit the loan office. A co-buyer pays off some of your loan or for the scion. You must pay this citizen back all of his money. If you default your loan, your scion will be repossessed to the co-buyer.

If you want a scion, you're going to have to work for it. It's not all glitz and glam as it seems. (I should know, I have seven of them!) ;) If you work hard and save up, you can get your own scion!

Whyville Prom 2010!

Whyville is hosting its annual Prom once again! It will be held Friday, June 4th at the Sportplatz from one to five PM Whyville Time. The theater will premiere home-made videos from youtube created by our own citizens. (If you have a Whyville video on Youtube, send the link to city-management@whyville.net by May 30th. Make sure it's appropriate, and the city workers just might pick yours!) Voting for the Prom King and Queen will start at one PM Whytime and the coronation will start at 4 PM Whytime. Face parts are also now being submitted into the Promenade Parts store at Akbar's Face Mall. Have fun and have a fun summer!

Making a Successful Petition

A petition is something you write to convince the city workers to make something happen or change something. When you publish your petition, other whyvillians will read it and vote for it if they like it. A petition needs 125 votes to make it to the polls. The polls are petitions that are quite popular and that may be considered by a city worker if it reaches 300 votes. (Usernames of people who voted will not be shown in a poll!) Rarely petitions make it to the polls because many are sloppy and useless! Learn how to make a good petition in this post.

Step 1: Thinking of an Idea

When thinking of an idea, make sure it is reasonable, has not already been done, or is not overused. Some people state in their petitions something about having a high amount of clams per day. Sure, who wouldn't want 10,000 clams a day? I know I would, but this will never happen. Second, make sure this hasn't been done already. For example, you may say you would like to see pets on Whyville, when we already have pets you may purchase with pearls. Lastly, make sure it's original. There are many petitions that suggest non-expiring parts, if there is already one that is similar to your idea, vote for it and don't waste time and space making another one.

Step 2: Creating a title

A petition needs a good title to catch someone's attention. Using a title that is just gibberish such as "aeifhdshga" will more likely turn people away as well as titles like "Read this or you will die!", "I'M JUSTIN BIEBER! READ THIS!", "Read this please", "Do not read this". These titles may catch attention, but not the kind you want. Let's say you would like to have a radio in scions (this has already been done with Why-Tunes, but I am using it as an example.) A good title might be "Scion Radio" or "Music in Scions".

Step 3: Writing your petition

A. Stay on topic- If you're going to write about one topic, stay on that topic. Don't talk about your life story!

B. Keep it simple- Don't make the petition two sentences or a full page. Remember the K.I.S.S rule, Keep It Simple, Silly! Make sure to give accurate details and why you would like to see this petition be taken into effect.

C. Please, please, please use spellcheck and proper grammar! A typo here and there is fine. Everyone makes mistakes, but would it kill you to check it? No. Also do not type in chat lingo. Which looks more appealing? This "we need sum knew collars 4 da cars cuz there boring!" or this "I would love to see some new designs open for use for anyone who would like to purchase a scion."? I say the second one sounds more professional.

Step 4: Getting Votes

I find it annoying when I receive y-mail upon y-mail of pleas to sign a petition, most of which are not well written at all. It's also annoying when a person runs around a chatroom saying "VOTE FOR MY PETITION!!!". If you want publicity, y-mail a few friends and maybe post a thread in the BBS. By following the steps listed above, you may get more votes!

CSI Case: Burning Star Review

So I have finished the game. Here's what I have to say about it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars *****
Opinion: Very interesting and fun to play

In this game, a badly burned body is found in a burned-out car in the desert. You are a new member of the CSI and you major in forensic science, and you are trying to find the victim and the victim's killer. All the tools you need will be in the tool kit Grissom will give you in the beginning of the game and you will also be given a PDA to review clues and receive messages from your fellow workers. You will scan fingerprints and DNA, make casts and impressions, interrogate and crack down on the killer, and much more. You will also find out whom the victim is. This game was fairly easy to follow. It's a good thing the designer didn't use to much forensic science jargon to confuse us! This game kept me busy (while earning clams!) and entertained me. I would most definitely recommend this game to a few friends! Great job choosing this game, Whyville!

Tips:

1. Remember to save your game. I have lost lots of progress by forgetting to save the game. It's a good idea to save it every five minutes or so in case your computer crashes or your internet is closed.
2. Don't jump to conclusions!
3. You're going to have to think a little with this game, so don't take it lightly.

The 411 on 911 Reporting

911 Reports, one of the most abused features of Whyville. In this post you'll learn what they are, how to use them, and the whole shebang.

First off, what are 911 Reports?

911 reports are the most important safety tools of Whyville. These tools should only be used for emergencies!

When do I use it?

Like I stated before, 911 report is only for emergencies! You may only use this tool when:

Someone asks you for personal information (phone number, address, real name, etc.)
Someone asks for your password or claims to be selling or giving away an account. Do not believe anyone who asks for your password! They are trying to scam you!
Someone claims to be a city worker. City workers are adults living near the Pasadena area in California who work for Whyville. City workers all wear the special red beanie with the letters "CW" in yellow on it.
Someone asks to meet you outside of Whyville.
You believe the citizen is an adult pretending to be a kid.
Someone uses extremely offensive language that can threaten the welfare of other Whyvillians.

Someone is picking on me! Should I report them?

No. There are other tools such as the "Silence" and "Vaporize" tools that can solve this problem. When you silence someone, you will be unable to see their chat bubbles or hear them. When you vaporize someone, you will be unable to see them in the room. Or you could always use the classic "Leave the room" technique. Remember, don't use the 911 Report to:

Win an argument.
Punish someone for saying something mean like "You're ugly." or for picking on you.
Get revenge.
Punish someone for swearing or cursing a few times.

Who cares if I use the 911 report whenever I want to?

The city workers and Whyvillians care! When City Hall receives a high amount of 911 reports, it takes longer time for her to punish the bad citizens and to work on new updates for Whyville! City workers keep a chat log and know everything you say in Whyville; using the 911 report tool frivolously may result in you being punished! You may be fined!

How do I use the 911 Report tool?

In chat you can 911 Report someone by double clicking on his or her avatar and selecting 911 report from the drop-down list.
If a citizen's city records disobeys the rules, you can click the call box at the top of his or her page.
If a face part is inappropriate or breaks the rules, you can click the red call box next to the face part/s.
If a BBS thread or post is inappropriate, you can click the red call box next to the post.

I was unfairly punished in a 911 report!

City workers will never punish you for no reason! The reason is right in your mailbox! If you do not remember saying or doing the action, someone may have hacked into your account. You should change your password ASAP and remember to never give it out.

How do I know the person whom I 911 reported is punished?

You will know if he or she is punished when you receive the ymail from city hall named "Report Decision". It will either say that there was no evidence of a reason to punish that person, or that the person was punished and will name the punishment. You may even be rewarded for helping to keep Whyville safe!

Now that you know all there is to know about 911 reports, remember these few things:

1. 911 Reports are for Emergencies only!

2. Don't use the 911 report tool frivolously!

3. Don't give out your password!

4. Don't mix up 911 Report with Silence and Vaporize!

5. Be safe in Whyville!
